We'd like to extend a heartfelt thanks to the following businesses and organizations for their support, encouragement, and belief in U22.

124 street & area business association

124_streetIn 1988 the merchants of the business district, 124th Street, extending from Jasper Avenue north to 111 Avenue in central Edmonton, formed a business association. Through the efforts of many members working with the Board over the years, 124th Street has physically improved with streetscaping and infrastructure work. Many businesses have seen the benefits of locating or expanding within the 124th Street business area.

Many of the businesses have been on 124th Street for years, providing specialty sales and service to Edmonton and surrounding areas.

With easy access to 124th Street, the area has become a natural business district for specialty shops, professional services, fine restaurants and bistros. 124th Street is the home of the famous "Gallery Walk", featuring some of the best art the city has to offer.

cantosCantos Music Foundation was created on January 1, 2003. It was formed from the integration of two local organizations that focused on understanding and presenting music to the community: TriumphEnt Foundation and Cantos Music Museum.

TriumphEnt Foundation, founded in 1990, presented programming centered specifically around the organ family of instruments. Cantos Music Museum, founded in 1997, focused on developing a world-class collection of musical instruments and related materials.

edmonton folk music festival

efmfBeginning in 1980 with one staff and 300 volunteers, the Edmonton Folk Music Festival has grown and matured to become one of the leading folk festivals in the world.

The quality of the music and the depth of the performer lineup is the single greatest ingredient in our success. Terry Wickham, producer, selects artists within a broad musical mandate. We have consistently increased our artistic budget in order to bring the best performers anywhere to Edmonton. Our vision is to continue to improve as a world-calibre folk music festival. At the same time, we work very hard to raise money through fund raising activities and through soliciting corporate sponsorships to keep ticket prices accessible for ordinary families.

KERFMUSIC

kerf_musicKERFMUSIC is based in Calgary, Alberta and was founded in 2006. Most of the music that you'll find on KERFMUSIC are from artists that hail from western Canada - places like Vancouver, Nelson, Edmonton, Calgary, Lethbridge, Winnipeg and many places in between. But word has been getting out and more artists from the east (eastern Canada that is) are seeing KERFMUSIC as a great place to showcase and sell their music.

Our mission is to provide a web portal for independent musicians by helping them succeed in their music. KERFMUSIC provides high quality MP3 files (min 224 kbps) that will play on your computer and any MP3 player that supports the mp3 format. Our model is very simple: when you download this music you are getting top quality encoded files. Guaranteed! There are no restrictions on the files. And you are supporting some great independent artists. Which should make you feel good.

So what’s a kerf? Literally defined, it is the width of a groove made by a carpentry cutting tool, i.e., a saw. Although it’s a traditional technical term, we like to think of being in the groove in a more abstract way: as an essential part of life.
