In his own words...
I began performing as a lead singer in a Rolling Stones cover band while still in high school. I performed at various functions including private parties and local competitions. The largest audience we had was before six thousand people. After graduation the band went their separate ways.
I continued to perform as a solo artist with my acoustic guitar. I attend weekly classes with Brian Farrell; a Calgary based vocal coach and music mentor. I also attend Mount Royal College for weekly creative classes. These are hosted by Brian Farrell along with Neil MacGonigill.
I have explored various avenues and listened in depth to styles of various artists, ranging from The Rolling Stones through Bob Dylan, Leonard Cohen and more recently Jakob Dylan, Ron Sexsmith and Iron and Wine. My solo material tends to be heavily influenced by them. Although the melody is very important I strive to make my lyrics subtle and at the same time paint a word picture of a scene or an experience.
I'm included in this years Bragg Creek Festival alongside critically acclaimed Alex Cuba and emerging songwriter, Karla Anderson. |
