Lucas Chaisson is a 16-year old singer songwriter from Cochrane, Alberta. Both as a writer and performer Lucas exudes a maturity far beyond his years. His soulful original songs and imaginative arrangements of covers make a strong emotional connection with his audience. With songs described as roots, rhythm and blues and comparisons to the likes of John Mayer, Martin Sexton and Ron Sexsmith, Lucas continues to capture audiences and grow as an artist.
In the past year, Lucas has skyrocketed into the impressive Alberta music scene, as a member of U22 Productions. He has received praise from such names as legendary singer-songwriter Ian Thomas, The Polyjesters, singer-songwriter and producer Gurf Morlix, and prolific singer/songwriter Justin Rutledge. He has always had an eclectic taste in music and has been influenced by a range of artists from Neil Young, Eric Clapton, the Beatles, Luther Van dross, Martin Sexton, and early Motown to Andre Boccelli.
His skillful, percussive guitar style, insightful lyrics and honest vocals keep audiences engaged and wanting more. Although in the business a relatively short time, Lucas' drive and passion for music is spreading quickly.
The term "old soul" is over used but it's literally the case with this cleaver young tunesmith. His lyrics are mature, well crafted and interesting. His vocal styling is akin to that of Brett Dennan and Ron Sexmith; his performance style is reminiscent of a young Martin Sexton. When he's on stage, he is exactly where he is supposed to be. |
It was a pleasure to get to know you. You've got a very special talent, so pay attention to it, alright? -- Justin Rutledge
Sounds really good. Strong playing, singing and confidence. You're on your way. I expect to hear great songs from you. -- Gurf Morlix
With catchy lyrics and funky tunes, anyone can tell Lucas has an ear for a hook. His original songs reflect a style that is close to Jack Johnson and Jeremy Fisher. I really enjoy listening to this dude every chance I get. -- James Slater
I really dug both of your songs..but just as importantly (to me, at least) is I liked your physical presence...your body language...the way you looked at the audience. Very good performances and both songs were cool. -- Neil MacGonigill
At just 15, he displays the talent of a young Martin Sexton and writes with the wisdom of an artist well beyond his years. -- Rhea March
S**t, dude! You've got some serious chops! Killer stuff! I think I'll have to buy your CD off you when I get the chance! I'll be telling some friends about you for sure! Great work, man! -- Aaron Pritchett
Dude, sick tunes. I really like them a lot! -- Michael Bernard-Fitzgerald
Great stuff, someday you'll be the one playing center stage! -- Ian Thomas (after Lucas played a tweener set before him at MVMF 2009)
I dig your stuff man ... great. Thanks for being a part of this year's fest. I wish you continued success throughout your career. It's going to be a good one! -- Jason Valleau
Those tweener sets are pretty tough, but you definitely pulled it off. Great stuff, very entertaining. -- Cindy Church
Man I gotta say, I hear a lot of versions of that song and yours was by far the best. You’re a really talented guy. Good luck out there and enjoy the ride. -- Hayes Carll (commenting on Lucas' cover of his song 'Girl Downtown')
