Rhea has been deeply involved with Edmonton's live music scene for many years but her unshakeable dedication to inspire young talent took root in 2006, through a community based "Young Singer/Songwriter" series she produced quarterly from Edmonton. Rhea's work with youth has been recognized with a Governor Generals Award for "Outstanding Contributions to her Community." She began working with CKUA Radio in 2007 and produced two successful radio programs focusing on young Alberta talent. The success of the shows lead to a six week sold out U22 concert series at The Royal Alberta Museum Theatre and a showcase at The Edmonton Folk Music Festival where U22 is now a regular feature. Since it's inception, U22 has produced over 300 concert performances including a one hour CBC TV special which was nominated for an AMPIA award in 2010. Rhea left CKUA radio in fall of 2009 to focus her full time attention on developing the U22 Program and as a result of her dedication, U22 has branded across the province as an outstanding youth mentorship initiative. A testament to the need for the program can be witnessed from Rhea's inbox which is jammed daily with requests for youth programming from communities throughout Alberta. The trail of success that U22 has blazed has proven that audiences of all ages embrace and encourage these outstanding young musicians. Most importantly it has fostered a strong and supportive community among Alberta's songwriting youth. Rhea's goal is to continue build on this momentum by showcasing and inspiring U22 artists all across Alberta and eventually Canada. Rhea is entertaining, engaging, and supplies an undeniably deep sincerity and love of the craft to nurture even the newest of performers to achieve their highest potential. U22 Productions is the manifestation of a solid belief that the future of good, authentic, original music lies firmly in the hands of our youth. |
